The Brief

Given its fabulous location, family (& dog) friendly policy and glowing reviews the Derwent Walk Inn, Ebchester should have been turning customers away at the door. But a lacklustre website with broken links, missing images & broken contact forms gave the pub an (online) air of neglect and badly writen content meant that the website had disappeared from the face of the internet. The owners of the pub contacted us to ask if we could help them turn things around.

Our Solution: Responsive Website Design

Selling the pub’s many positive qualities should have been simple and yet the original website had made no attempt to emphasise any of them. Dull colours, missing images and broken contact forms all conspired to give the website an air of neglect and the pub had slipped out of the Search Engines.

We deleted the old website and database, replacing it with an easy-to-use Content Management System so that the client could add pages, images and news items as they wanted. Investing in professional photographs paid dividends as we were able to use the images as the basis for a bespoke website design that showcased the pub’s glorious surroundings and cosy interior.

The structure of the website was simplified and the number of pages were reduced to four: Home, Food & Drink, News and Contact. As the pub has excellent customer reviews; we made good use of them by adding a relevant customer review below each page sub-heading.

The menu at the Derwent Walk Inn changes frequently so we created a simple system allowing people to download the most current menus; a great idea for those people who want to order food in advance or make group bookings.

Copywriting & Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

We assisted the client with the copy and Search Engine Optimisation across the website, researching popular search terms and keywords for each page in the website and ensuring that the  written content was in character with the atmosphere of the pub.

Search Engine Optimisation was integrated as part of the website build. This included extensive research into popular search terms and keywords for each page in the website. Tracking analytics were also employed to map the number of site visitors and the actions they took when visiting the website. The website was also optimised for screen readers and meets A1 Accessibility Criteria.
